TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION TO MODERNIZE saharan agriculture

24-25 NOVEMBER 2026

The conference

context

Today, livestock farming remains a cornerstone of rural livelihoods, cultural identity, and a vital source of protein and income in fragile ecosystems. However, in recent decades, it has faced major challenges due to climate change, recurring droughts, and declining natural forage. Shrinking pastoral areas, overgrazing, and soaring feed prices exacerbated by global supply disruptions have led to reduced herd sizes, stagnant productivity, and rising food insecurity.

As result, many smallholders are forced to sell their animals or abandon livestock due to high feed costs. The lack of locally adapted, sustainable, and affordable feed solutions remains a key challenge for Saharan livestock systems.

Objective

The International Conference on Technology and Innovation for Modernizing Saharan Agriculture seeks to rethink animal production in the Sahara through agroecological innovation, green technologies, and local resource use. Valorizing agro-industrial by-products, improving forage production, adopting smart management, and preserving resilient genetics.
